John grew up the son of a hospital administrator; Alyson, the daughter of an accountant. People, ideas and details come naturally.

Notable project experience occurred while completing internships in other well-known firms. In addition, independent work and studies abroad included London, Western Europe, Japan and Southern Chile

Prior to launching Blue Room, John and Alyson were personally involved with other projects around the globe including The American School, Concepcion, Chile, NikeTown Retail Stores, adaptive reuse of a Historic Northern Pennsylvania General Store, Post Falls' Hot Rod Cafe and even a few that required 'backpack' only access to remote historic locations.

At the encouragment of a number of clients, friends and peers, Blue Room Architecture & Design, P.S. was launched in the fall of 2006 (formerly established as Blue Room Design Studio) in Spokane, WA and expanded to better serve the Seattle area in 2008.

In 2012, the firm was noted for delivering 'Project of the Year' for the Arbor Crest Cliff House and has recently been asked to participate in additional projects in Northern California, Jackson Hole, WY and Washington DC.
